The Sixth an Final Layer in The Layer Defense of your Computer, The Verification-Engine
In a way this software called the Verification-Engine: is one of the more important pieces in the defense of your home computer. It is the final layer in the defense of your computer.
What the engine does is that it verifies that the website is the true website of your Bank, Insurance Company, Stock Broker, IRA, 401K an any other site you may go to!
The Engine has the ability to recognize the difference between the High Assurance SSL Certificate that contains the details of the organization that you wish to transact business with, and the Low Assurance SSL Certificate, where only the website name is contained.
It is not recommended that you TRUST Low Assurance unless you have a prior relationship with that business. Or that you have specific knowledge that the website does belongs to that business.
The Verification-Engine provides a pop-up indicator each time you move from a non-secure http session to a secure https session.
For High Assurance web sites you will see the name of the Certification Authority who issued the SSL certificate and the name of the entity owning the web site.
For the Low Assurance certificates, you will be presented with a warning to remind you that the web site cannot be verified.
If you wish to verify the organization in the future simply mouse over the "padlock" in the status bar
It helps to protect the computer from being HI-JACKED by Malware and Spyware.
Once it has been HI-JACKED, it can be turned into a Zombie that is controlled by whomever installed the Malware or Spyware. They, then can use it for what ever purpose they desire, without exposing themselves.
But you are left vulnerable, because legally you are responsible for what ever is on your computer.
