Anti-Virus, The Third Layer in your Home Computer Defense ConceptAn Anti-Virus Software makes up the next layer of protection for your computer. It is in essence the first line of defense inside your computer. The first two layers, Vidalia Bundle and the Firewall of Defense Concept are protecting the entrance into your computer even though they are in the computer. My first Anti Virus was from Norton it came with the computer. If I remember correctly it lasted for six months then was not any good. I renewed it once, after many tries, for a year. When it came time to renew again, I got the SONG an DANCE about the bank rejecting my purchase. Checked with the bank, they had not rejected. They were not even queried about the purchase. That was when I started my quest for FREE SOFTWARE. My quest was for a way to protect my computer from the BAD GUYS. I found, what I think is a very good software application. I have been using this particular piece of software for about two and a half years. I am very satisfied with it. They update about every day at 10PM Eastern Time. You can set to run automatically once a day. I do it when I am supposed to be taking my nap. It takes about 2 hours and fifteen minutes to run. I have on my computer about 10 Gigabytes of stuff, plus on an external Hard Drive about 100 GigaBytes. The same company now has one for Linux. I just found it on their website, and down loaded it. Used it for the first time on Nov. 14. 2008. Was using Clam Anti-Virus, it scanned about 1900 files in total that was the most I could get it to do.The new one scanned almost 57,000 files on both my internal hard drive and my 350 Gig external. I do not know what happened with the AVG, but since the first time I used it has not scanned anywhere near the original 57,000 files. Now the best I can get out of it is 8800 files. I have found one from Avast for LINUX that is also FREE for home use. It took awhile to get it setup. The first run, doing what they call a standard run of the entire system, it checked 122 thousand plus files. I will continue to test it and let you know what I think.
