Back in December 2007, My external Hard Drive did a Crash & Burn, I took it to get a replacement, as it was only 4 months old. While waiting for a new one, my primary Hard Drive did a Crash & Burn. I was left with no computer of any kind. I first tried getting replacement CD's for the Windows XP OS, they were more than willing to sell them to me. I saw no reason to pay for them again as I had payed for them once, already!!!

To shorten the story, I now have 2 new Hard Drives, and am using Linux!!

I regularly check the links to the various FREE Stuff for them still being good links. That is why Anti-Spyware has been moved to the bottom of the Nav bar. AVG no longer has a FREE version. Lavasoft says they do. But I cannot check out to see if it any good till I get a second computer.

According to what I have read the Security for the Linux OS is very good.

There seems to be two major reasons why Free software does not catch on.

1. Most people think you have to be a Techie Nerd to find the Free software for protecting your computer. You do not need to one.

2. Most people would would rather pay say $50.00 for a software package that is supposed to do everything.

The problem is that: "The One Size Fits All Designing Rarely Does."

A large Corporation gets into a way of designing things, and after awhile it is easy for Hackers to figure out how and why, they are doing it, and that makes it easier to hack the product.

A HACKER tends to be very very smart about how computers work.

If you have several different products from different suppliers, the odds of one supplier doing it the same way as another is remote, and greatly improves your chance of foiling Hackers trying to break-in to your computer.

I have eight different pieces of software from different suppliers. From the Vidalia Bundle (Hide IP), Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-SpyWare Verification Engine and so on. No two pieces from the same supplier are next to each other, in the defense layer.

Sure you can go to Norton or McAfee and buy their suites and then renew every year. After you buy the basic stuff, they then want you to upgrade to their higher-level product, for more money, of course. We can spend lots of our hard earned money on these products.
